I like the idea, just not the execution.
Maybe move the ‘retreat’ to the six car garage area and have access to the garage direct off the street.

Does it come with that many Porsches?

Is odd he calls it a retreat. I have a feeling it got it's name because that's where he runs to when he has pissed off the wife again and he has to run from flying frying pans. The 'retreat' is both a location and an action.

How do you get cars into the garage in the back?

> garage space for 16 cars
> still has a truck parked in the grass
Jalop confirmed.
Also, Oppo group home? If sixteen of us pool money, that’s only ~53k AUD each, which is about 40k USD.

i’ll be the caretaker.

Pretty sure you could simply build a better place in a more practical location for that money...

Hot bunking 4 people per bedroom doesn’t sound comfortable.

We’ll sleep in shifts.
Actually, that reminds me of a (gross) idea I had once. Bedshares- like a bikeshare or carshare: generally, you only use a bed for about eight hours a day. Mattresses cost a fair bit- why not rent a bed at an hourly rate? If three people each work different shifts, they all sleep at different times. Why not have three people share one bed, each taking a “shift” on it at a time? The bed is in constant use, and less beds have to be bought overall.

honestly, i wouldn’t bet on it.

I don’t think hot bunking more than two people per bed is practical. Three would be the absolute limit provided nobody needed a full 8 hours of sleep.

Why would you want room for only one of your cars?
![]() 07/16/2018 at 08:59 |

If people dropped to a 6 hour sleep schedule, you could conceivably get 4. But after 2, it really gets to gross conceptually to seem like a good idea. Don’t Navy ships do 3 shifts?
![]() 07/16/2018 at 09:09 |

Because 40k is a lot more palatable than 80k.

It’s about the price of 3 median houses in the US and located in an exurb of a secondary (but functionality tertiary) major coastal city. So we’re looking at like an exurb of Houston for comparison . A house with the same number of bedrooms would cost less than 1/3 of this price there.
You could build a shit ton of garage on many acres of included land for the remaining third of the cost. Probably over twice as many spots.

Yeah, but Navy guys are weird (seriously, there are a couple in my family and I’ve worked with quite a few) and quite disciplined. I couldn’t fathom doing this for any period of time.

The broke ones.

Is property super expensive in Australia? That property is a good hour outside the city according to Google maps, that would maybe be half the price, and probably closer to a third, in most suburbs like that in the US.

No idea. I'm assuming just like anywhere else it's all about location.

Where do you park the rest of the fleet?

Like Australia, prices in the U.K. are way higher than the U.S..
There is a new housing development near my work. A five bedroom detached house on a new housing estate is £350,000 and that’s on a house that isn’t fully built yet which is usually 85-95% of what the house will by when it’s fully built and put up for sale.
And that’s in a small city, 50+ miles from the next nearest city in a county where the ‘cost of living’ is near the lowest in the country.
